PTC News Desk: The Election Commission has issued a notification prohibiting the conduct, publication, or publicising of exit polls between 7 a.m. on April 19 and 6.30 p.m. on June 1.

The notification issued on Thursday also stated that, under the provisions of the Representation of the People Act, presenting any election matter, including the results of any opinion poll or other poll survey, in any electronic media, would be barred during the 48 hours following the poll's conclusion.

The election will be held in seven phases, with voters across the country voting on April 26, May 7, May 13, May 20, May 25, and June 1. Vote counting will be held on June 4.

Earlier, the Election Commission of India took serious note of noncompliance/partial compliance with its orders and urged all State/UT governments to promptly remove all unauthorised political advertisements and ensure complete compliance with its instructions.

The Commission received complaints from Congress and other sources indicating that unauthorised political advertising are still being shown in numerous locations throughout the country.
In response to a complaint made by DMK's R S Bharathi, the ECI issued an order directing that prompt appropriate action be taken in accordance with the Model Code of Conduct.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar has also warned against the spread of misinformation during the Lok Sabha elections. Kumar stated that the ECI will soon launch an initiative called "Myth vs Reality" to combat the spread of fake news on social media platforms. Myth vs Reality will teach you how to spot fake news and narratives spread on social media platforms.
